Finland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen announced the appointment saying that Suldan Said Ahmed will focus on supporting peace processes in the region, which includes countries such as Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti.
After careful study, all the media have one thing in common: The need for such appointment by Finland for the Horn of Africa, a time Somalia has its own internal conflict such as the fight against the terrorist organizations such as Al-Shabab and Daesh, the resumption of Somaliland and Somalia talks, while Ethiopia has also its own internal conflicts: Amhara region conflict, the hunger in Tigray region and the regional conflicts such as Ethiopia Somaliland Memorandum of Understanding which is fueling a new regional conflict and finally the conflict in the red sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Suldaan Said Ahmed is a young diplomat with a lot of challenges ahead such as mitigating these conflicts into peaceful resolutions, altough he previously held this position while he was member of the parliament and had a good experience which will help him advance the Finland’s peace mission to the horn of Africa.
